Come Sail Away
Pack 249 had their annual Rain Gutter Regata on Friday. For those not familiar with the concept, it is actually very simple. Each Cub Scout was given a boat kit that contained the hull, mast, sail, keel and rudder. Two rain gutters were set up side by side for head to head racing by each scout. While it was windy on Friday, the boats are traditionally powered by the scouts blowing into the sails. Several strategies were employed this year. Logan made his boat a bit narrower than the other boats. He also trimmed the sail to make it narrower and squished the sail to gether to make it more of a curved surface. That strategy paid off because he was the big winner in the head to head competition. While second place went to Michael, he did have the fastest time in the time trial race - 8.6 seconds.
It was definitely a lot of fun, despite several tears being shed. Joseph loves to win and was not too happy coming in last every race. Gianlucca also was a bit disappointed in his performance. But in the end, they already started plannig for next year.
